Rules for a readable page

Short lines, generous margins, one typeface done well. The page does not need to be clever to be good.

This piece has no picture on purpose. A readable page is mostly a matter of a few habits.

Keep lines short

Between fifty and seventy-five characters per line, the eye finds the next line without effort.

Leave room

Margins are not wasted space. They frame the text and give the hand something to hold on a printed page.

Choose one typeface

One family with a few weights covers almost every need. A second typeface should earn its place.
